Joel makes the rounds
August 14, 2008

It sure is heating up around here, and we don't just mean the weather! This week Joel appeared on The O'Reilly Factor alongside Doug Kmiec, another noted Republican who has endorsed Barack Obama for President. He also joined the Independent Party and the Working Families Party in filing suit against the Secretary of State in our fight to get both his Republican and Independent nominations listed on the ballot. (For more info about that, follow this link.) Then Joel braved the heat and headed out to Hillsboro's Cornell Estates, where he had a really excellent discussion with residents. He's even managed to get in a bikeride or two.

There will be many photos added to the site in the next few days, including images from last weekend's first leg of the Bipartisan Bikeride and the Haugenator's appearance in the Elephant Garlic Festival Parade, so please check back! In the meantime, you can hear Joel live on 1360 KUIK radio Friday at 8:45 AM!

Stay cool, everybody!

I don't know where Joel got this, but I like it. This is clearly the clucking of an endorsement.

Haugenator Appears in Hillsboro Rotary's 4th of July Parade
July 8, 2008

A good time was had by all when Joel debuted his eco-friendly Haugenator contraption in the Hillsboro Rotary's 4th of July Parade! Move over Rube Goldberg! Well, ok, Rube Goldberg would have had a feather tickling the nose of a donkey who kicked the bike forward, but still, it was a feat of backyard engineering.

Although he had room for three total passengers, in this case Joel brought along some heavy hitters: scarecrow versions of Lincoln and JFK, symbolic of his bipartisan agenda and commitment to being the right kind of politician. (Unfortunately Pres. Kennedy took a nose-dive in front of the grand marshal's stand...) Joel and fellow-assembler Bob Prohaska almost got everything finished before the parade, but didn't have time to fix a short in the electrical system, so Joel did things the old-fashioned way and used the pedals

.

It was a great day-- the rain held off just long enough for us to get back to the truck, we met tons of wonderful people, and afterward we celebrated our success with burgers and beer. Special thanks to Martin, Elaine, and Noelle for their awesome support and candy-throwing prowess!
